Sonya Aston is a 6th generation Houstonian, graduate of the University of Texas and South Texas College of Law.  Much of her career has centered around response to emergencies or preparing for emergencies.  After working on the Exxon Valdez litigation in Anchorage AK, Sonya returned to Houston, graduated from law school and began working as an environmental enforcement attorney for the City of Houston.  At the City, she was the hotline for environmental emergencies. She continued her environmental experience at Conoco Inc and a small environmental firm.  Sonya returned to government at the Harris County Tax Assessor’s Office where she volunteered at the Office of Emergency Management during emergency events.  After four years, she moved to the Elections Division where she was the Administrator of Elections for eight years.  Each election is a four to five week emergency.  She is here to provide her lessons learned from years of emergency planning and response.
